Giles Brook Primary School

School History

Giles Brook Combined School opened its doors to its new 242 pupils on Monday 8th September 2003, 3 days later than originally planned. Over the last two years the roll has now frown to 390 pupils.

School Name:

We have taken the name "Giles Brook School" from two historical and environmental features of the Tattenhoe grid square.

Giles is from the 15th Century chapel of St. Giles situated, in the South West part of the Tattenhoe District Park and next to the site of the Medieval Village.

We have taken "Brook" from the Loughton Brook which runs along the bottom edge of the school field and continues right through Milton Keynes. School Logo:

There are many sightings of dragonflies and damselflies in and around the Loughton Brook in Tattenhoe and the Howe Park Wood ponds. We have chosen the Male - Large Red Damselfly ( also called Pyrrhosoma nymphula). It is a really lovely school logo design.

July 2005 - Giles Brook Primary School was officially opened

Although Giles Brook opened its doors in September 2005, it had to open with a number of outstanding building issues that needed to be resolved, therefore the official opening was delayed until the major issues had been addressed and resolved. The official opening ceremony was held at the Summer Fete in July 2005. Children from the school had enjoyed an arts week previously where one of the many arts projects they got involved in was making samba instruments, masks and head dresses. Every child was then invited to take part in a whole school samba display as part of the opening ceremony. Dr Phyllis Starkey MP said a few words and planted an oak tree.
