Welcome to Giles Brook Primary

Our school opened in 2003 and has rapidly established a very good reputation in the area.  I have been a Headteacher of three different schools including two new ones over the last 16 years and as a parent of three children, I have always tried to look at schools through the eyes of a customer.  We are a parent and child-friendly school with a terrific team of staff and governors who really do their utmost in the best interests of the children.  R.elationships are seen as a crucial motivating force in our school; everything we achieve is down to the strong sense of teamwork that permeates our school.  Many parents come in to help and we see them as partners and friends with the same common goal as ourselves: trying to bring up polite, confident young human beings with the academic and social skills needed to succeed in later life.

The curriculum is broad with a wide range of exciting opportunities.  Basic skills are well taught but we don’t just have a narrow focus on English and Maths. We want our children to have a well-rounded educational experience, to enjoy coming to school and be enthusiastic and motivated.  The quality of teaching in our school is very good and we have highly developed monitoring and evaluation procedures to maintain quality.  We do not teach to the S.A.T.’s or do endless practice for these tests as happens in so many schools these days.  Such practice can lead to very misleading results and do children and secondary schools few favours although I suspect it pleases the Government statisticians!

Our resourcing levels are very good and having a purpose built new building is a huge advantage.  We have wonderful ICT capability which is essential in preparing our children for the future and very well equipped classrooms.  Our Friends Association run all kinds of social and fund raising activities and have purchased many additional resources to further improve our facilities such as outside benches for the children, a playhouse for the youngest children and 30 guitars.  They make a fantastic contribution to our school and have done so much to give our grid square a real sense of community.       

We welcome visits from parents during the school day.  I always think you need to see a school in action to get the real flavour of it.  We are currently oversubscribed and there is a waiting list in almost every year group.  I hope you enjoy looking round our website which has been designed and is updated by Jenny Brown our ICT Technician.

Reminder Schools FL

For pupils in KS2 ( years 3 to 6 ), don't forget to sign up for fantasy league football, it only costs £3.50 to enter for the whole season, have great fun managing your own premiership football team and try to beat your friends. This is your chance to be a real-life Premiership manager; follow the team selection rules to pick 11 players to be in your Schools Fantasy League team. For the next 8 months your team will compete against your friends and teachers for the chance to win Manager of the Month certificates, medals and the overall school trophy.
