re: Mathematical calculation strategies  - The 4 operations

The following information outlines the progression in the calculation strategies used within our school to teach addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.  These are laid out progressively.  As children move through the school into the later stages of KS2 we encourage them to use the most efficient strategies to obtain an answer but also encourage them to select the methods of calculating they feel most comfortable using.  Number lines are still commonly used within Year 7 when children transfer to secondary schools.
